Why is Canada Suffering from Ever-increasing Obesity?

Where are you?  It might sound a little bit Captain Obvious. All of us stay at home in order to minimize close contact with our friends. In the last 30 days, we showed our strength, resilience, and creativity. C.L.I.C. thinks that the more we practice physical distancing, the more social connections we need.  💗 We may be more concerned about the health issues in this period than before. Now Manami Nagasaki shares with us her argumentative essays about Obesity.       Why is Canada Suffering from Ever-increasing Obesity?  -Canadian People and Society Need to Shift their Diet Value from Convenience to Quality- By: Manami Nagasaki In Canada, same to other many countries, industrial progress is obviously one of the most evolved and effective contributors of uncountable benefits to our lives over decades. This exponential progress allows people in Canada to have access to an abundant variety of foods and convenience, however, I point out that it is accompanied with a

Northern Irish English

😊 You may know the classification of a variety of English called World Englishes. It refers to the different English varieties in different countries or territories. Some students took the course of Language awareness last fall. They were asked to analyze a specific English variety by watching a given TV program. Among them, several students did excellent jobs.  C.L.I.C. will share their reports with you one by one. The first report is about Northern Irish English. After having watched the first episode of the sitcom“Derry Girls”, Evelyne Potvin-Cloutier used phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics to delve into the details found in North Irish English which are different from North American English.                                             Northern Irish English Evelyne Potvin-Cloutier Phonetics In the Northern Irish English spoken in the first episode of the sitcom Derry Girls, I noted (2m10s, 8m46s, 11m54s) that the vowel /u/ as

CLIC BanQ Outing March 6th - Activity with students and their children

Image
Last March 6th, we organized an activity for the students-parents of the English programs and their children. It was the school break week, so we went to the great library of Montreal, the BanQ,  where we attended various workshops amongst others. We did Lego construction on a tablet, a computer workshop, we did some coloring and other interesting manual and cognitive activities. In total, we were 4 parents accompanied by 6 children. We spent about 2 hours exchanging and discussing in English between parents while children were having a lot of fun in the different workshops. Both the children and the parents enjoyed the activity and they are ready to live the same experience again. Stay tuned for more activities!

For various reasons, I’ve been a student at UQAM for many years. Although I’ve never been diagnosed, I probably have some version of ADHD or something similar. There’s an H in there, that’s for sure. Nevertheless, over the years I’ve developed some maturity and I’ve figured out how to get through my many academic obligations despite my problems with adaptation, concentration and so on. I eventually succeeded in getting things done in time and with a level of quality of which I’m quite proud. What’s the secret? I don’t know if there is one. I do have 5 strategies that worked for me, and I’d like to share these with you. My strategies may not work for everyone, but they’re pretty general and adaptable. It’s worth a shot! 1.      Use Word and its corrector functions As an UQAM student, you are allowed to download Word software for free on your computer for the duration of your studies. For your English studies, just set the computer to the English language in
